Sketched LIVE at a special performance of the Nutcracker by the NYC Ballet. This is the dance of the Candy Cane, complete with his striped hoop and a sugary pink backdrop decorated with icing and sweets. This year, we'll have to let the sugar plums dance in our heads, but you can still sip a bit of magic from this Nutcracker mug.

Story Time!
To give you an idea of how much I love the Nutcracker, let me share the following story. A couple of years ago my oldest friend came to visit during the holidays and we decided to see the Nutcracker ballet at Lincoln Center, because truly nothing could be more magically New York than seeing the NYC Ballet perform this holiday classic. By the day of the performance, I had managed to throw my back out so badly that I could hardly walk & was literally using a cane to hobble around my tiny apartment. I was devastated that we might have to miss the ballet and pledged that I would magically heal myself by the time evening came. At 6 o’clock I peeled myself off the floor, gingerly put on a pair of pants & boots and hailed a cab to the city. Rolling up to Lincoln Center, I watched people crossing the plaza, their silhouettes illuminated by the glowing fountain in the center that perpetually sprays glittery waterfalls into the air. Light poured through the tall arched windows of the Met as opera goers bustled to their seats. I opened the cab door and said a silent prayer that when my foot touched the ground it wouldn’t send a shockwave of pain through my spine. Reader, I promise you that what I’m telling you is true. When I walked out of the cab I was healed. I hardly needed the pink, flowery cane I had brought with me & I could almost pretend that the back brace and aroma of icy hot that embraced me were a fancy corset & delicate perfume. I tiptoed across the plaza, arm in arm with my best childhood friend & walked into the gilded theater that the NYC Ballet calls home.
